Account age says when it was registered, not whether it is usable
Many buyers treat age as a trust signal, and that premise needs correcting. Apple does not publicly say older accounts get gentler review, or that new accounts face extra limits. Age is only useful if it comes with things that matter: a stable renewal history, completed entity verification, or a clean publishing record. All of those depend on who controls the account today and what state it is in. So the question before ordering is not how many years old it is, but who holds it, what the membership status is and what content sits inside.
Confirm who the Account Holder is and who it will be after delivery
The Account Holder role controls agreements, renewal, certificates and key settings. Ask the seller to state whether the holder is an individual or an organization, which legal entity stands behind it and how delivery works. If delivery means handing over login credentials while the Account Holder remains someone else's identity, you are buying access rather than control. Renewals, agreement updates and appeals all route back to that real holder. What is allowed in terms of transfer follows the Apple Developer Program License Agreement and Apple's current documentation, so the seller should be able to explain how their delivery method fits within it. If they cannot, do not pay.
Membership status and expiry define what you are inheriting
The membership page in the Apple Developer portal shows whether membership is active, when it expires and how renewal is handled. Check three things: is it active now, how long until expiry, and is renewal automatic or manual. A short remaining term means renewing right after handover, which belongs in your total cost. If membership has lapsed, the effect on published apps and the recovery path follow Apple's current pages. Also confirm there are no pending agreement updates or missing tax and banking details, since these can block submissions or paid-app distribution.
For accounts with apps, verify the account and the apps separately
An account with existing apps is two assets, and each needs its own check. For apps, look at status in App Store Connect, the Bundle ID, whether it is live, any rejection or removal history, and whether ratings look organic. For the account, look for violation notices, developer conduct emails or appeal records. Apps can move between accounts through App Store Connect transfer, but with preconditions such as no review in progress and restrictions around subscriptions and in-app purchases, as set by Apple's current documentation. So decide first whether you want the account or one particular app, because the delivery method differs.
Individual and organization accounts need different checks
For an individual account, check that the registrant identity matches the account details and how you become the controlling party after delivery. For an organization account, add a layer: whether the legal entity still exists, whether the D-U-N-S record matches the account, and that the company name appears as the seller name on the App Store. If your business needs a specific entity shown on the store page, that name is not a detail to accept casually. Country and region matter too, since they affect payment methods, tax forms, available storefronts and some category requirements, none of which can be changed just by buying.
When to stop or choose a different route
Pause the order if any of these appear: the seller cannot say who the Account Holder is; they refuse a read-only check of membership and existing apps; delivery requires you to rely on an Apple ID or two-factor device the seller keeps; there are unexplained violation notices; or the price is far below comparable accounts while the history is claimed to be clean. Also consider whether your goal needs your own entity, such as publishing under your own company name. In that case registering the right account type yourself fits better than inheriting someone else's. Buying makes sense only when entity, country and app status match your need and control after delivery is clear.
