Apple Developer Individual Account for Sale: Which Apps Fit an Individual Entity, and When to Pick an Organization

Before buying an Apple Developer individual account, check whether your app fits a personal entity. Seller name, restricted categories, team collaboration, EU trader status and migration cost decide if it is enough.

Apple Developer Individual Account for Sale: Which Apps Fit an Individual Entity, and When to Pick an Organization

The limit comes from the entity, not the price tier

An individual account is tied to a natural person, while an organization account is tied to a legal entity. That difference drives the seller name on the store page, who signs the agreements, and whose tax and payout details are on file. So the useful question is not whether the app can be published, but whether it is acceptable for one named person to be the responsible party. Answer that before you compare countries, account age or price.

The store page shows a real personal name

Apps published from an individual account normally list the account holder's legal name as the seller, not a brand name you choose. If the product must face users as a company, for example a business tool or an app tied to brand compliance, that is a direct limitation. For a personal project or a small utility where a personal seller name is fine, an individual account works. With a purchased account, the name shown is the original holder's, so confirm with the seller and decide whether you can live with that identity long term.

Categories and teams that point to an organization

App Review Guidelines place entity expectations on some categories, such as lending, financial services, crypto trading and certain health-related apps, which are generally expected to come from the organization providing the service. Check the current guidelines for the exact wording. Multi-person teams also fit poorly: if different people need to handle builds, finance and testing, an organization account gives clearer role separation. A simple rule: if the app involves a regulated service or needs several long-term maintainers, do not treat an individual account as the default.

EU distribution brings trader declarations

For distribution in the EU, Apple asks developers to declare whether they are traders. An individual selling apps commercially may still need to be treated as one, with address, phone and email shown to users. An individual account therefore does not mean hidden contact details. Before ordering, confirm the current trader status, who controls the listed contact details, and whether you will replace them with your own. The exact requirements are whatever App Store Connect shows at the time.

Price the later switch to a company entity now

Moving from an individual to a company identity is usually done by registering a new account under the company and transferring apps with App Transfer, not by converting the account in place. Transfers have prerequisites, and subscriptions, push certificates and linked services need individual review, always per Apple's current process. If you expect a company entity, funding or branding requirements within months, choosing an organization account from the start is often steadier than buying an individual one and migrating later. For a solo project or short validation cycle, the individual account is lighter and cheaper to run.
