An individual account does not convert in place; you switch accounts and transfer the app
People searching for this usually assume there is a type switch somewhere in the portal. Under Apple's current approach, the membership type is set at enrollment, and individual and organization are separate memberships. What is possible is to use an organization account as the receiving side and move published apps over with App Transfer. So before ordering, decide whether you need an account under a company entity, or you need existing apps moved under a company name. They lead to different purchases. Always check Apple's current pages for the exact rules.
The app moves; certificates and keys do not
App Transfer carries the app record, ratings and reviews, and existing subscription relationships. Anything tied to the Team ID does not follow automatically. Signing certificates, provisioning profiles and push keys must be reissued under the new account. If code or backend services hard-code the old Team ID, such as Associated Domains, App Groups or Keychain sharing, they can break after the move. Ask the developer for a dependency list first, then decide on the transfer window.
Features that block a transfer or need extra work
Check four areas first: whether Sign in with Apple and third-party login user identifiers are affected by the Team change; whether iCloud and Keychain-shared data survives; push notifications, Universal Links and other Team-ID-linked configuration; and the agreement status for Game Center, subscriptions and in-app purchases. The receiving account must also have accepted the latest agreements and be in good standing, or the request may not go through. These details change, so follow what App Store Connect shows at the time.
On the organization side, confirm the entity and the authority, not just the label
An organization account maps to a real legal entity, and the seller name on the App Store comes from it. Ask whether the entity name and country fit your release regions, invoicing and tax setup; who the Account Holder is and whether you can legitimately designate that person; whether the D-U-N-S record matches the entity; and who will receive verification codes and Apple emails afterward. If the seller cannot explain who owns the entity, or the entity has nothing to do with your business, the account may carry compliance and support risk even if the app transfer itself works.
Buy an existing organization account, or enroll under your own entity?
If you have your own company and can supply the enrollment details, enrolling under your own entity is the cleanest route, and transferring apps then involves two accounts you control. An existing organization account makes sense when your entity cannot meet requirements in the target country, or when you need an account that already carries apps. The test is whether the seller can state in writing the account type, country, whether apps are included, the current contact holder and the handover method. If any of these is missing, pause instead of paying first and asking later.
Checklist before placing the order
Confirm in writing: account type and enrollment country; whether apps are included, with Bundle IDs and release status; how the Account Holder, contact email and phone are handed over; any pending agreements, tax or banking items; whether the app uses subscriptions, login, push, iCloud or other Team-bound dependencies; and each side's responsibilities after handover. For fees, review timing and policy, rely on Apple's current pages and the seller's written terms, not verbal assurances.
FAQ
Do users and reviews survive an app transfer to an organization account?
Ratings, reviews and subscription relationships are generally kept with the app, but push certificates, signing and Team-ID-dependent configuration must be rebuilt. Check Apple's transfer guidance against your app's actual dependencies.
Can I change the seller name shown on the App Store after buying an organization account?
The seller name comes from the legal entity tied to the account, not a freely editable display field. Confirm the entity name before ordering instead of planning to change it afterward.
